My Room In My Father’s House

By: Jeffrey Wong

In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:2-6

Over this past Christmas holiday, my parents and brother came to visit my family for a few days. Before they arrived, my wife and I had to prepare their rooms.

We had to sweep the floor, move things around, inflate the air mattresses, and even furnish the rooms with chairs and a table. A lot goes into preparing a room for someone to stay in because you want to ensure that your guest will enjoy their stay.

While preparing the rooms and organizing the house, John 14:2-6 came to my mind. This passage talks about how Jesus is in heaven preparing a place for each of those that believe in Him. His house has many rooms and every believer will have a room.

The most exciting part of the passage is that Jesus will actually come back and take us to God’s house. Even though, Jesus is now in heaven, he will come back and take all the believers there.

The only way to God’s house is through Jesus. By accepting Jesus as your Lord and saviour, Jesus will also prepare a place for you in heaven. Unlike how my parents and brother stayed in their rooms for a few days, you get to stay in God’s house forever.

How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty.
