You are to distinguish between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean, and you are to teach the people of Israel all the statutes that the Lord has spoken to them by Moses.
Leviticus 10:10-11
In chapters 8-10, Aaron and his sons begin to take on the duty of the priests. As a priest, they are to teach all the people the ways of the Lord and as a priest, they are held to a higher standard.
When Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu used another type of fire than the Lord commanded, the Lord killed them. They should have known better, and the Lord did not choose to give them mercy.
When we sin, the Lord is grieved. He might not kill you immediately like he did with Nadab and Abihu, but He hates sin (Psalm 5:4-6). The Lord commands us to not grieve the Holy Spirit who dwells within us (Ephesians 4:29-32).
As Christians, we are a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9-10). God uses us as witnesses for Him. How we live our lives is our testimony of who God is and what God does in our lives. If we don’t represent Him well, then people will not want to follow the Lord.
The interesting thing about all this is that people are interested in following God. When people find out your a Christian, they start looking at you under a microscope always asking the questions like “What makes you different than me?” or “Why do I need Jesus when I too am a good person?”
Those questions are answered in what we say and what we do in our daily lives. We are not suppose to fake it. We are suppose to be real and your testimony happens naturally. Why? Because you are living your life for God. Do not be afraid to represent Jesus whenever the opportunity arises. Whether it simply be telling someone you’ll pray for them in Jesus’ name or helping someone because God loves them. Always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks (1 Peter 3:15-16).
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
