Week 3 Day 2: Have Faith In God’s Promises (Genesis 48-50)

By: Jeffrey Wong

Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die. But God will surely come to your aid and take you up out of this land to the land he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” And Joseph made the Israelites swear an oath and said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up from this place.”

Genesis 50:24-25

When Joseph was near his death, he reminded his brothers about the covenant God made to his great grandfather, Abraham. The covenant where God promises Abraham that his descendant will inherit the land of Canaan (Genesis 15).

Joseph is so adamant about the fulfillment of God’s promise that he makes the Israelites swear an oath to take his bones to the promise land (Genesis 50:25). That is faith right there.

From Genesis 37-50, we see that throughout Joseph’s whole life, he remained faithful to God. He lived for God’s glory and his testimony inspires millions today.

We also must have faith and be adamant about the fulfillment of God’s promises. Whatever God promises, it will happen. It may take a while but God is faithful and He will deliver.

By faith Joseph, at the end of his life, made mention of the exodus of the Israelites and gave directions concerning his bones.
