Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, βI had a dream last night, and no one here can tell me what it means. But I have heard that when you hear about a dream you can interpret it.β
βIt is beyond my power to do this,β Joseph replied. βBut God can tell you what it means and set you at ease.β
Genesis 41:15-16
In Chapter 41, Pharaoh receives a set of troubling dreams that none of his wisemen or magicians could interpret. This caused Pharaoh to be more troubled.
His Chief Cup Bearer remembered his time in prison in Chapter 40. where the Lord helped Joseph interpret his dream about being restored to his position. Three days later after the interpretation, he was restored as Chief Cup Bearer.
He told Pharaoh about that Joseph can interpret his dream and Pharaoh sends for him. When Joseph arrives, Pharaoh asks if he could interpret the dream. Joseph gives God the glory and tells Pharaoh that it is God who shows the meaning of dreams and visions.
Joseph easily could have said it was him and take all the credit. But Joseph recognizes that he himself can do nothing. But by faith, Joseph tells Pharaoh that God can him the meaning of his dreams. Joseph trusts that God will do it and God does.
Imagine if after saying all that and Joseph doesn’t know the meaning of the dream because God didn’t tell him. Joseph would have surely been put back to prison. But God is faithful because Joseph is giving God the glory and God wants to be glorified.
Remember that we live to seek and follow the Lord, tell others about him, and bring Him glory. Joseph did just that.
Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things;let this be known to all the world.
