From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had, in house and field.
Genesis 39:5
Joseph was sold by his brothers to become a slave because they hated him. They were jealous that he was their father’s favourite. Even though this injustice happened, God was with Joseph.
The Lord gave Joseph favour when he worked as a slave to an Egyptian. Because of Joseph, the Egyptians house and field were blessed.
Joseph put the Lord first in all he did. When his master’s wife tried to seduce him (Genesis 39:8-12), he ran away because sleeping with his master’s wife would dishonor the Lord.
At the end of chapter 39, Joseph gets unjustly thrown in prison. The Lord was with him there too. The Lord granted him favour with the prison warden and he was in charge of taking care of the prisoners.
As we see in Genesis 40, Joseph uses that position to minister to his fellow prisoners. He attends to them and takes care of their needs. When two prisoners were troubled by a dream, Joseph shows them that God can interpret dreams and the Lord helps Joseph interpret their dreams.
As Christians, we are called to seek the Lord, to follow his ways, and to tell others about the great things He has done. Life has a lot of things that could make us worry. But we should focus on the Lord. The Lord will take care of everything else.
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
