Great Things

Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, “Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed.”

2 Kings 5:13

The Lord does great things all the time. He makes the impossible possible (Luke 1:37). The greatest thing He has done is showing us his grace, love, and mercy by dying for our sins so we can have a personal relationship with Him.

In 2 Kings 5, we find the story of Namaan. Naaman was the commander of the Syrian army and was highly regarded, valiant soldier (2 Kings 5:1). Unfortunately, he also had an incurable skin disease known as leprosy (2 Kings 5:1). Through a Hebrew slave girl, he heard that Israel had a prophet who could cure him of leprosy (2 Kings 5:2-3). So he went to find the prophet, who was Elisha.

Namaan being a foreigner to Israel, did not know the Lord (2 Kings 5:8). But that will change soon.

On getting to the prophet Elisha’s place, Elisha sent a messenger to Naaman telling him to wash seven times in the Jordan river and his skin will be restored (2 Kings 5:10).

Namaan didn’t want to at first (2 Kings 5:11-12), but changed his mind later and did what Elisha instructed him to do. Then a great thing had happened – He was cured from an incurable disease! (2 Kings 5:14)

But the greatest thing that happened that day was Namaan believing in the Lord (2 Kings 5:15, 17-18). God not only cured Namaan’s leprosy, He also gave him a new relationship with Him.

The miracles of the Lord are important, but the hearts that turn back to Him are even more important. Each heart that turns back to the Lord is a great thing and heaven rejoices (Luke 15:10)!

In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

Luke 15:10
