Seeds Take Time…

By: Jeffrey Wong

Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

Galatians 6:8

In life, everything we do is either for God or against God. In Galatians 6:8, it describes our actions like that of sowing seeds. Actions that are for God and please the Holy Spirit are seeds that will reap eternal life. Actions that are against God are seeds that will reap destruction.

Seeds take time to grow into plants, and plants take time to mature. So the full effects of the actions we choose today may not be fully felt for some time.

When we sin, the destructive effects of sin may not be immediate. We may even feel like we got away with it. But don’t be a fool, God can not be mocked (Galatians 6:7).

Sin is disregard for God. Ignoring the right thing we know to do (James 4:17); refusing to learn what is right (Matt 13:15); insisting on doing wrong (1 Sam 15:23). God reveals sin’s true form to all creation through His Son Jesus. What may have felt right and argued to be good, is what we now know: Jesus crucified. Jesus died so that everyone would know this and be truly free.

Freedom is choosing to live, and to live is to love.
It is love that causes us to defend strangers who are unjustly treated; love that wins when we prioritize our spouse’s well-being. Love, as we share our treasures with another; Love that stays through challenges.

Why would God create us?
Why would He expect so much from us?
Why does he care what I do?
Why does he judge?
Why can’t I do whatever I want?
Why would Jesus die?

Because God is love.

What Jesus did was take the insults, the betrayal, the rejection, the pain, and death, so that when you and I wonder…

Is it worth it to believe in somebody, when everyone says they are damaged? We would say yes.
Am I worth a second chance? We would know that God loves us as we are.
Can God be trusted? He totally can.

When we realize our sin and turn to God, God gives us a chance to sow good seed starting with giving us a new direction away from our old habits. He bears with us through our struggles, even though some challenges may be a result of our past habits.

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
