That Was Easy

For this is what the Lord says: You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water, and you, your cattle and your other animals will drink. This is an easy thing in the eyes of the Lord; he will also deliver Moab into your hands.

2 Kings 3:17-18

In the early 2000s, the business supplies retailer Staples ran a lot of commercials with a button that had the word ‘easy’ on it. It was to demonstrate that shopping at Staples and getting what you need was as easy as pushing a button.

Throughout the Bible, God declares and demonstrates that He has great power. Luke 1:27 states “For nothing will be impossible with God.” What’s amazing with God isn’t that not only can He can do impossible things, it’s that doing impossible things for Him is easy.

For humans, there are a lot of things we can do. Some tasks are easy and we might do them everyday without thinking much about it. However, we all face difficult tasks. No matter who you are, you will have tasks that are difficult for you to do. Through great effort, we can accomplish these difficult tasks, but it sure ain’t easy.

Then there are things that are impossible for any person to do, like staying young.

In 2 Kings chapter 3 the Israelite army was going to war against Moab. In trying to find Moab’s army, they got lost and ran out of water (2 Kings 3:9). The army finds the prophet Elisha and asks him to inquire of the Lord for help on their behalf (2 Kings 3:11-12). God tells the army that water will just appear. This is easy for the Lord to do (2 Kings 3:17-18).

The Bible says that we should cast all our cares to God because He cares about us (1 Peter 5:7). No matter how big or small you think your difficulties are, ask God for help. God desires a close relationship with you, and He is willing and able to meet all your needs. For Him, it’s easy.

Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?
